Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Vidix

What systems can I install Vidix on?

Vidix works exclusively on macOS 13 or higher. It requires system accessibility permissions to copy, paste, and automate actions from the menu bar.

What prerequisites do I need?

In addition to macOS 13+, you need to grant accessibility access and have a valid license if you want to unlock Pro features. If you plan to use cloud models, add the corresponding API keys.

Do I need permanent internet connection?

Only when using cloud-hosted models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or others). If you configure prompts with local Ollama models, Vidix operates offline except for periodic license validation.

How does Vidix protect my information?

Vidix only sends the text portion or image you decide to process to the provider. Content is temporarily processed locally for functionality like transcriptions and may be stored briefly during processing. We don't permanently store or index your content for external access; the app saves anonymized technical metrics during beta to diagnose errors. You can disable metric sending from the preferences panel.

Can I use my own API keys?

Yes. In Settings → Providers you can add keys per provider. Vidix encrypts keys in your macOS keychain and never shares them with third parties. If you change devices, remember to revoke previous keys.

What models come preconfigured?

We include quick access to Gemini 2.5 Flash, several GPT-5 editions, Claude sonnet/opus, and local models like gemma3:latest. You can add additional compatible models or your own Ollama installation.

How do I create and organize prompts?

From the prompts panel, assign a name, global shortcut, and default model. Define whether Vidix should copy, cut, or open the editor before pasting. Prompts are saved in shortcuts.json, so you can version them in Git or share them with your team.

Can I use Vidix on multiple devices?

Yes, as long as you maintain the same active license. You can release a seat from the Manage License section and reactivate it on another Mac when needed.

What happens if a model fails or responds slowly?

Vidix shows a toast with the error and allows retrying with another model via ⌘⇧K. If you need to abort, press F9 or close the popup without anything being pasted into your document.

Is there a free version?

Vidix offers a 3-day free trial. After the trial, you can choose from Pro, Team, or Enterprise plans with different levels of automations and support.

How do updates work?

We publish weekly builds. The updater will notify you when a new version is available; you can install it in the background and restart when convenient.

What languages can I work in?

The interface is available in English. Prompts can generate content in any language compatible with the chosen model; just adjust the prompt or create language-specific shortcuts.
